The sun almost came out this afternoon, so I walk around to the opposite side of the pond to try and get a better shot at the elusive Fantail. Willy Wagtail was there, and I took a lazy shot at him, but my son spotted the smaller bird (at least three of them) spinning about the edge of the swamp and trees.
So, just when I needed it, the sun ducked behind the clouds and left me on ISO 3200 f 7.1 at 1/640 sec hand held at about 400 mm zoom. Out of 20 attempts I got one that was clean enough to show. It is still dark and grainy, but the grey fantail came up really close for the portrait.
