Masked Lapwing (Plover)

Vanellus miles
These used to strike fear into my heart. Their swooping attack, the rumours of rotating knifes on their wings (a thorny spur that projects from the wrist on each wing), and a call that sounded like the Maritans in the movie Mars Attacks.
But, today, these were as pleasant as could be.
